You spin me right round

Woke up to snow this morning: not too much but it was on top of ice. The minor road out of the area I live in was treacherous. Fortunately there is some building work going on and there were plenty of hefty groundworkers around to push people up the icy hill if their cars couldn’t get any grip. I needed two pushes myself. It then took me about 10 minutes just to turn a corner! Horrible. The Bridgestones on my Honda are bloody useless in icy conditions.

Plus I’m faced with snow when I return to Italy on Monday. I like snow but I don’t like driving in it.

It’s brilliant having all my music on my hard drive. I always imagined it would be good but in reality it’s amazing! Playing tunes at random I get to hear loads of “lost classics” that I’d never get around to playing if I had to physically fetch the cd and everything.

I know I’ll eventually get around to creating some more focused playlists and to that end I’ve begun to refine all the genres. It’s a big task so at the moment I’m doing it by album. I don’t want to be too specific but at the same time I don’t want an old Kraftwerk tune popping up in the middle of a Dave Clarke style techno playlist. Similarly Aimee Mann and Ministry were both classed as “Rock”! That’s way too general.

Then of course there’s bands like Calexico… I have no idea!

back and forth

If anyone reads this, sorry for not updating but i’ve been a bit busy with work.

It looks like I’ll be back in the UK next week. That’s good news. It’s nice for me personally to be back with HP and Miles but I also have some important work to finish off.

This week it’s 12 hour work days as we test user roles and authorisation, ready the interfaces and all sorts of boring pish like that. Strangely I’m in a very organised and work-oriented mood at the moment (which isn’t like me) so I don’t mind the long days too much. They do prevent me from from doing my circuit training though. Bang goes another New Years resolution! I also gave up tabs and that’s going OK so it’s not all bad.

I came back to Italy yesterday. It’s tough after nearly a month at home.

Surprisingly nothing untoward had happened to my apartment (I was sure I’d have boiler trouble) and it didn’t take long to warm the place up. I had a kip in the afternoon to recover from getting up at 3.30am to catch my flight and then met Gerd in the evening for a few beers. I’m knackered so I need an early night.

I need to exert self-discipline or I’ll go bankrupt.

So I’m still in the UK, working. That’s nice because I’m with HP and Miles. It means I can play footy again. I get to drive my nice car, see my old dear – all those sorts of things. But after a shitty morning I feel very very down about work. I know it’s partly just the shitty morning but recently I seem to get this feeling more and more. Basically I have no deep interest in my job. It pays well and at the moment I’m working in Italy which is a great experience. But job satisfaction? Haven’t had that for a long time.

Football was good last night. I don’t feel too bad today so playing in a lazy controlled, efficient way paid off!

I’ll have to stop smoking though if I’m to continue playing in Italy… I used about half of me puffer afterwards!

i’m finding it very difficult to get motivated to do my work. it’s not the usual post-Christmas thing… this is more related to where we are with the project. We hit the deadline and now the challenge has gone out of it.

Tonight I thrashed HP at Triv… makes a change: it’s normally the other way around.

Now she says I can “do rumpy on her”… it’s my lucky night!

I’m working in the UK office this week, which is nice. My Italian colleagues are all off today and tomorrow which means I’ll get some peace too.

On wednesday evening I’m playing football for the first time in 6 months. I know I’m going to feel it on thursday but I don’t care. I really miss the insults banter between the lads. Before getting injured, I played with work colleagues in Italy and it was crap in comparison.
